My Timing Has Always Sucked Just a Little

Not more than three months ago (after five years of service) I switched my cell phone carrier from Cingular to T-Mobile.

I did this to save money and to be able to make free calls to my brother and sister-in-law in Hawaii and my brother in Memphis...they are all on T-Mobile.

I thought I was sooooo smart.

Pffftthhhh

By now, many of you know of my love for Apple products.

Beyond John Krasinski...beyond John Mayer...even beyond Taylor Hicks...Steve Jobs is the one, true love of my life.

And yesterday he ripped my heart out.

Not only did he announce the newest Apple products...the Apple TV and the iPhone (pictured above)...both of which I desperately want...he announced that iPhone (which comes out in July) will only be available through...

drumroll, please...

Cingular.

How friggin' ironic.

I'm now faced with the dilema of switching back...something I may have to do...because I know this product will be amazing (my brother in Memphis, Ben, has already decided to do so).

Anyway...I know y'all don't really care about my dilemma...but what I know you'll care about is this...

Go to this page on Apple's site and click "Watch iPhone Introduction." It's a Quicktime video of Job's Keynote Address.

If you're a geek like me...you'll watch the entire hour and a half. If you're not, you'll scroll to 1 hour, 22 minutes in and watch an amazing live performance by John Mayer.

Enjoy...while I agonize over which kidney to sell on the black market so I can afford the new phone.

You are not the only one to be excited about the new Apple products. I have been waiting for months to buy the new Apple TV. Also, I could not believe how revolutionary and awesome the new iPhone will be. Cingular is my wireless provider so I'm better off in this situation but the cost will still be so high that I may not opt to get the new iPhone. I believe the beginning price is around $500. That's an iPod, phone, and PDA and it's all in one small device so it would be worth it if I owned all of those devices.

The iPhone is so great that I may buy it anyway. A touch screen for selecting people to call. Synchronization with Outlook for contacts. Sync with iTunes. Too much great stuff to babble about here but check out the apple site.

$499 for a 4GB

$599 for an 8GB

It's absolutely unbelievable. Just the voicemail select alone is fantastic...but the scroll screen...three-sensors that control the screen layout, touch screen and listening mode are revolutionary.

This product is absolutely phenomenal.

As for the Apple TV, it's only $299...and I KNOW I'll be getting it...along with a new TV to update from the old Goldstar I current watch.

I encourage EVERYONE to go read about these products. They are ground breaking and mind-blowing...plus...they're just so friggin' COOL.

Waaah! I am a t-mobile customer and have been seriously thinking about going to Cingular, just for a new Treo. I am a total gadget geek and this is actually physically painful.

If you find a good price on a kidney, let me know. I think you can sell a piece of your lung, as well. That might fetch a good price.

Hee hee! Know how you both feel, Shelley and MindDoc. The iPhone is awesome. I watched the whole video, and only just got my son out to school on time. Wowzers.

I am looking with disapprobation now, at my beloved MDA Vario. I am sure the iPhone would let me download more than half a long email, without telling me that I have to wait until I receive another email, before it reveals all..sigh. I missed the last minute of the presentation, so please don't tell me that it also does grocery shopping online and heats up and does the ironing. I sooooo want one!

I don't think Cingular have outlets over here, unless they are under another name. I wonder if the US Immigration authorites would see a yen for an iPhone as good reason enough to allow me residency?

I hope all this free advertising is enough to have Apple call by and offer us all a free iPhone!

Okay, saw this post and went and watched the entire almost-2-hour keynote address. (Because I'm geeky like Shelley.)

I want an iPhone in the worst way. And to think I was just about to get the 80gb iPod this weekend. That was my plan - an iPod and the Sony Ericsson P990i. Methinks I'll wait until June and go for the iPhone instead. Which should leave me with enough savings over my original setup so that I can get the Apple TV. Or that MacBook Pro I've always wanted.

So now, how to fit in the Wii in all this?

Waa!

Well…I’ve decided to wait for the second generation phone…so all the bugs will be worked out and they can up the memory. I don’t know HOW I could go from 30GB to 4GB. I do, however, want to get a decent TV and the Apple TV. I talked to Ben about this this morning and he said maybe if I did that…my family could get me a Wii to go with the whole package!

Yikes…that makes me happy.

I read about the iPhone yesterday and got a bad case of the "I wants." But I ran into a bit of sticker shock! Now I am off to read about how Apple TV works....

Shelley, continue salivating, I'll be back! ;)

OMG, you guys are killing me! What is this technology of which you speak? (done in best caveman voice). I will say I would love to get PS2 because I played the American Idol game last weekend and it rawked! You're talking to a woman whose mom still thinks the IBM selectric typewriter is cutting edge--I think I inherited her technotard genes.

Apple fanatic here too. We've been waiting for the iphone announcement, but we're in the opposite boat from you Shelley...

We were with Verizon for years and just switched to Cingular in Sept. '05. (Came in VERY handy last spring, lol.) This past September, DH left his phone within reach of one of our lovely 'children'.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h250/malisa1st/JakeandAJinCayucos-avi.jpg

He found most of the phone. I found the battery. I found the back cover. We never found the antenna. Long story short...he negotiated with Cingular to get a new phone with some kind of break in the middle of our contract. When we went in to execute the deal, we were told the guy was wrong, it would be full price.

It wasn't so much that we didn't get the deal on the new phone, but the fact that we hauled our butts down to the store and were then treated like crap by the store staff and corporate on the phone. We were DEFINITELY dropping Cingular in September when the contract was up.

Ummm, not anymore...

As someone who owns a shuffle yet hates all the Apple overpriced, proprietary b.s., I say: What the Duck?
