Traveling Monkbot Goes to Vegas, Baby...Vegaaaaassss!

Prepare yourselves, folks, this week we gots lots of travel shots from our furry little friend.

In the past few weeks, Mind Doc has schlepped him practically around the world and back, capturing the adventure along the way.

Documentation of this leg of the trip begins in Las Vegas...

Starting Out
Text and Photos by Mind Doc

Once upon a time, I went to a website – graycharles.com.

While I was there, I made many new friends.

I made a friend who lives in Scotland, and she invited me to come and visit her sometime. The planets aligned, I got a great airfare and time off of work, and so off to Scotland I went. Life is funny, sometimes.

When I heard about the Traveling Monkbot Project, I asked Shelley if she thought that Traveling Monkbot would like to go to the UK, and she allowed as she thought that he would.

There was a great amount of discussion about whether to carry TM on or pack him. My husband was worried that I would not be able to explain why there was a robotic monkey in my bag, I was worried that he would get smashed if I put him in my luggage. My brother-in-law’s words “think burly guys throwing luggage around” kept echoing in my head.

I decided to carry him on.

The trip started out in Las Vegas, where Traveling Monkbot did enjoy a quick go at the machines in the airport...though he left his antenna in the luggage for ease of packing.

At the Atlanta Airport, Traveling Monkbot was pleased to see a display of his progenitors. It seems that there are a lot of toys made in Atlanta.

Do the planets stay aligned?

Will Traveling Monkbot make it to the UK?

Or will "burly guys" throw him from the plane into the ocean?

Tune in tomorrow...same Monkbot time...same Monkbot blog...to find out!

To be continued...

---

Special International Travel Caveat: I know I said I was limiting each person to seven pictures...but since this leg of the trip went through different states AND countries...I decided to bend the rule a bit and allow seven pictures per city. It was the least I could do since Traveling Monkbot practically had to sit on Mind Doc's lap for hours and hours on board a plane...right? Plus, I figured...the more pictures...the more fun. So, to be fair...if anyone else takes TM out of the country...he or she is granted more than seven pictures to run.

My lips are sealed as to what actually transpired in Las Vegas, Double D. I think it best. Discretion is my stock in trade...

Mind Doc...I think that's best. I don't want my opinion lowered of MB. Ha!

Hope you don't mind the Swingers clip...it just HAD to be done!

Great Swingers clip. That view of Vegas when you come over the hill is great -- I love the Luxor Alien Beacon.

How come people in Vegas movies always have cool cars. You never see them in a mini-van or a Yugo.

Mind Doc...I think there are Yugos and minivans....but the lights are so mesmerizing that nobody notices.

Mind Doc- You're so money baby! You're so money and you don't even know it!

Vegas baby! Whoo!

Bama, is that "money" or "monkey"? (I crack myself up).

Mind doc, I can't wait to hear from you about the reactions you got from other people on the plane about the little Monkbot. How do you explain that succinctly? "um, it all started last January...."

Can't wait to see more!

I sadly confess that I totally didn't "get" that clip about Vegas. Was I missing something?

I've been there once and I can say that so long as you're playing they do indeed bring you free shit--well, they brought me free drinks as long as I kept feeding those nickels to the slot machine. (I have an addictive personality and really can't gamble. I allowed myself only a certain number of nickels and wouldn't bring my ATM card into the casinos.)

Q, I didn't get it either. It's from the movie Swingers. I can't get over how thin Vince Vaughn is in it. I'm like you--I went to a manager's meeting in Las Vegas last year, and I allowed myself only $50 for the slots. It was gone in like 20 minutes. I didn't even get any free drinks. :(

Hehehehehe.....the monkbot's gambling...hehehe

Swinger's is one of the best movies of all time. I fell in love with Vince Vaughn in that movie.

I was Vince Vaughn when Vince Vaughn wasn't coool.

You know who else I love that reminds me of Vincent Vaughn? Vincent D'Nofrio. I love him on Law & Order Criminal Intent. He is such a know-it-all.
I loved Vince Vaughn in Old School. That was such a goofy movie, but I loved it.

FRANK THE TANK, Baby!

Bama -- You, my friend, ARE the trendsetter. Tell me that you didn't start the Macarena...and B.B. Jeans (anyone remember those?)

When the world goes Monkbot (and they will), you can then claim to being Monkbot when Monkbot wasn't cool.

At 12/18/2006 04:03:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Monkbot not cool? NEVAH!!!!

At 12/18/2006 04:17:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

DD: Frank the Tank is what we call my dad, believe it or not. His name is Frank, but his "grandpa" name is Tank, so naturally, we dubbed him Frank the Tank. They even make a t-shirt that says it!

Also, side note: Did anyone see SNL with Bama's boy JT on it? I saw through the first musical performance before zonking out and it was FUNNY!!! The Barry and Robin Gibb thing was hilarious.

At 12/18/2006 04:25:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nola! I didn't get to see JT cuz I was busy at my office Christmas party! I heard that he was hysterical and that his musical performance rocked the house. What a cute little man he is!

DD-I can't claim responsibility for the Macarena...however, I can remember lots of nights doing the Macarena at Red River (local country bar). Heyyyyy Macarena!

Leejolem- I'm so sorry to disagree, but I find Vincent D'Onofrio to be yucky! I can't get that MIB alien thing out of my head whenever I see him.

I have to say, there is something about Vincent.

I think it's his cute little nose...I like this shot.

And he was a total cutie in "Mystic Pizza."

Bama - There are some clips up at Youtube ... at least that's the word on the street.

Oh, I totally forgot to say how cool your TM Adventure is, Mind Doc! Can't wait to see what else happens!

At 12/18/2006 05:29:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bama, that's ok. Most people find him kind of weird. I can't think about him in The Cell. I also can't think about Vince V. in the remake of Psycho. He was one freaky Norman Bates.

Shelley, I had no idea he was in Mystic Pizza. He's one of those actors that's been in so many movies you can't keep track of them all. I like his nose and the gray at his temples. I'm a sucker for gray hair (there's a surprise).

Vince Vaughn? Never heard of him. I assume this is some actor. Wasn't he on some recent movie or something? I'm afraid I don't keep up with these things.

Oh, wait, he was on some show that Taylor was on, wasn't he? Like Regis or something? Or was it Ellen?

Sorry...I do eventually learn actor's and actress's names if they become famous enough. I mean, I've heard of like...Harrison Ford. And many more! Really!

Oh, Q, come on - you mean didn't hear about Vince and Jen's big break up??? ;)

footnote: That would be Jennifer Aniston, of Rachel on Friends fame. :)

I've given up all hope for Q having ANY pop culture saavy.

alas...

Who is this Jennifer Aniston? I watched part of one episode of the show called Friends, became horrified, and never watched it again. Not my type of humor.

I'm afraid I'll have to concur with Shelley: Not much entertainment world savvy here. I mean, you're talkin' to someone who "watches" movies by going here.

However, once I read something, I remember it. So I often know surprisingly obscure trivia. But if I never read it in the first place... *shrugs*

Q - High-five, sistah - I had not heard of the guy either. I am sure he couldn't eat more than four Flaming Hot Cheetos, tough as he looks, let alone eat twenty and save one behind his ear for later, as the bag suggests.

As for TM, may I just say that MD continued to take good care of him, re-wrapping him most carefully after I had rolled him up in his bubble-wrap in a somewhat slap-dash and slovenly manner. I was gentle with the wee lad, but I have Monkbot-wrapping difficulties. He has awkward bits that stick out. MD is a more considerate wrapper. I would have given the poor guy saddle-sores.

I did carry him now and then, tho, out in the open, to give him a breath of air, in spite of the distinctly odd looks cast in my direction. Just sayin. 0--{:8)}

Q...I'm absolutely and unequivicably appalled at your movie spoiler site!

How can that BE????

sighs

i loves ya, anyway.

Rowan...thanks letting us know about MD taking such good care of TM. Y'all are good folks. ;)

LOL--I don't have the patience to actually *sit through* a movie--when we watch them at home at least I can do handwork or something while watching. Now if it's something I *really* want to see, I can watch raptly and attentively...but it has to be GOOD. Last movie I watched in the theater was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Which was NOT as good as the book, but not a travesty. C.S. Lewis's stepson was involved and kept it fairly well on track.

Oh, thought y'all might like to see this nice Taylor article (disregard the old, old AI publicity shot they used to illustrate it, however...)

I wish that dumb AI picture of Taylor from last January would GO AWAY. There are so many better ones, even AI ones. Like the wood floor with the mike ones....WHAT is the deal with that photo? I see it everywhere. Why can't they use the "Caution" photo? Or the TV Guide, white shirt photo?

At 12/18/2006 09:49:00 PM, Blogger shelley said...

DD...the worst thing about that AI photo is that, when I see it, I automatically think it's an old article...and I close the window.

I've probably missed tons of stuff for that reason.

That picture makes him look kinda goofy. It does not even look like him any more. What is his publicist THINKING??

Ack.

I call it his 3rd grade haircut picture. It's time to retire that one!
